Andrew Ferrara, US Soldier, Retraces Afghan Steps Of Dead Brother

First Posted: 11/10/11 05:53 PM ET Updated: 11/11/11 09:05 AM ET
ASMAR, Afghanistan -- The mountainside is steep and large boulders up the slope provide perfect cover for insurgents. It's been a frequent spot for roadside bomb attacks on passing convoys.
Andrew Ferrara has come a long way to take this path. His immediate mission, as he leads his U.S. Army platoon up the mountain, is to find a trigger point from which insurgents set off the bombs. It's a treacherous climb. Several of his soldiers slip and nearly fall on the sliding gravel and loose rock.
But the 24-year-old 2nd lieutenant from California has a broader goal in being here. Here is where he can forge a bond with his older brother Matthew, who was killed in the same rugged mountains of Afghanistan's Kunar province while leading a platoon of his own four years ago.
"I know that my brother was walking the hills 10 miles from here," said Andrew, who now has his brother's initials "MCF" and date of his death tattooed on his left rib cage, the area where the bullet that killed Matthew left his body.
"You look around here and you understand the challenges that he found are similar to the challenges that I'm facing now," he said. "I get outside the trucks and walk up into the mountains and it really puts it in perspective. What kind of person he was, how strong he was and how much heart he had."
But it's more than a matter of experiencing the same geography.
Questions over Matthew's death stirred up a swirl of emotions among his family beyond just grief. Guilt, feelings of betrayal and thoughts of revenge, even doubts over the principles that his parents tried to instill throughout their lives. Andrew, the youngest of four brothers and a sister, has been an ambassador for his whole family, and retracing Matthew's footsteps has provided them not answers, but at least a way to absorb his death.
The date was Nov. 9, 2007. Matthew, a 1st lieutenant, was on his final patrol before moving on to a new assignment. He and his platoon went to the village of Aranas to have one last meeting with local elders he had been dealing with often for the past months. On the way back, they were ambushed. The battle lasted an hour, killing Matthew and five other soldiers. It took two days to retrieve the bodies because of the difficulty of the terrain.
It was in the backyard of the Ferrara family's Torrance, Calif., home, that members of Matthew's platoon told his father Mario about that day. Matthew didn't have to go on that patrol, he just wanted to say goodbye to the elders.
From everything he's learned from the platoon members, Mario believes that the reasons for Matthew's death go back to a previous battle, 10 weeks earlier.
In that battle, roughly 100 Taliban led by a local commander named Hazrat Omar attacked Ranch House Outpost, where Matthew was stationed. Matthew and his platoon found themselves locked in fighting with Taliban only 10 yards (meters) away, firing small arms and rocket-propelled grenade. During three hours of intense combat, Matthew directed the return of fire, coordinated the evacuation of the wounded and called for airstrikes perilously close to his own position, ultimately repelling a force three times the size of his own.
In the end, Omar and 10 of his fighters were killed. No U.S. soldiers lost their lives. Matthew received the Silver Star, awarded posthumously.
Omar's father is one of the top elders in Aranas. Mario is convinced the village elders with whom his son had long worked drew him into a trap.
Matthew was the first one killed in the ambush as he left Aranas. "They knew who Matt was, they targeted him. They set him up," says Mario.
Now, Mario says: "I'd be going for Hazmat Omar's dad."
"It's an innate rage thing. I can't help it. I know better but I can't help it," he said. "I look at myself and say 'Why can't you practice what you preach?' But it's just there."
Mario and his wife Linda, who run a bakery business, sought to instill in their children that all humanity is one tribe. Growing up in the Ferrara home meant mandatory readings of Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables" – a tale of the dangers of vengeance – along with teachings from Hinduism's Bhagavad Gita scriptures. Theirs was a self-described "glass-half-full kind of family."
In the wake of Matthew's death, Mario found himself tormented by the thought that after teaching his children the value of trust, his second eldest son may have lost his life in a betrayal of trust.
"The guilt had come from the sense that we had tried to instill in them that people are good, and I felt I had betrayed them," says Mario.
Matthew, who was posthumously promoted to captain, was buried at West Point, where at the time Andrew was enrolled. Andrew took comfort in having Matthew nearby. Still, as he researched the events of his death, he grew angry, convinced that Matthew was set up by those he had worked with. Matthew's platoon members believe that, the family says, though the military didn't investigate that aspect of his death.
"I was thinking the elders were in on that," he said of the ambush on Matthew. "I wanted to go back on mission to that place, to that town to get my answers, to find out who these elders were. Really, just to understand what happened and why someone would want to kill someone that was so precious to someone else."
After graduation, Andrew went on to Ranger school and soon after finishing in February, he learned that the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment out of Hawaii, was soon deploying to Kunar. He quickly signed on to join it.
The desire to follow Matthew to Kunar runs deep in the Ferrara boys, all of whom are in the military. The second youngest brother Damon, 25, deployed to Kunar late in 2010 for a little over two months as part of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne, the unit replaced by Andrew's battalion. The eldest, 35-year-old Marcus, who is currently stationed in Thailand, requested to go as well but leading a platoon at this point after several tours in Iraq wasn't in the career path for a U.S Army major.
It's a double-edged sword for the family, having Andrew in Kunar. He's their link to Matthew, calling home from the mountains of eastern Afghanistan just like his older brother did. But then, he's another son in the same dangerous, remote place from which one son never returned.
"We hear stories firsthand where Andy is. To have any type of stories is our only way to get close to Matt again," said Linda.
She understands why Andrew wanted to go – "I completely understand, it doesn't mean I'm completely happy he's there."
"I want him to have the resolution to concerns he has," she said. "I hope that Andy finds comfort in being close to Matt and I'm sure he will."
Six months into his year deployment, Andrew's role in the 10-year-old Afghan war mirrors Matthew's – meetings with village elders, fighting insurgents who slip in across the nearby border with Pakistan.
He focuses on the feeling that every thing he does can help save a life.
The descent from the mountainside patrol brings Andrew's platoon to the edge of the rushing Kunar River. A thick cable stretches across to the other side. It's a location where U.S. soldiers have recently been attacked. Andrew inspects the cable making sure the basket once used by the Taliban to transport weapons and ammo across the river has been removed by Afghan troops.
"He talks about blowing up positions the Taliban use to attack from. He went in there and personally set the charges," his brother Marcus said. "He made sure and that made me feel good ... that because of Andrew at that spot, no one will have to go though what we went through."
One thing Andrew hasn't done is go to Aranas, the last village Matthew visited.
Andrew hasn't learned more about the circumstances of his death, no proof that he was betrayed, though he and his family still believe firmly he was. Still, Andrew is thinking beyond it, focusing on the belief that being here has helped.
"Anything you can do as a human being to help another human being is a step in the right direction," said Andrew from atop Observation Post Coleman overlooking Taliban attack positions around the village of Asmar. "I like to think that being here now that Matt made a difference in a lot more people's lives in Afghanistan."
His father, as well, has stuck to the beliefs with which he and his wife raised their children. "I don't regret it," he said. "Andy is a goodhearted kid. He doesn't see bad in people. I'd rather they be that way."
The Bhagavad Gita teaches that by living up to duty and responsibility one can find balance and enlightenment and maintain harmony with all around them. The ancient texts now carry new meaning for Andrew.
"I think in terms of peace with Matt's death, I'll never forget and I have a different level of understanding now," says Andrew. "I do think I have gotten out what I thought I wanted. That's just the product of spending six months of my life in the same shoes my brother spent six months of his life in."

"We can never fully repay the debt we owe them but we can stop our busy lives, stand and remember."

The Prime Minister has recorded a Remembrance message.
The Prime Minister said:
We stand together to honour the incredible courage and sacrifice of generations of British service men and women who have given their lives to protect the freedoms that we enjoy today.

From the trenches of the First World War to the desert of Afghanistan our armed forces have proved time and again that they are the bravest of the brave and the very best of what it means to be British.

We can never fully repay the debt we owe them.

But we can stop our busy lives, stand and remember, honour what they have given for us and thank them for what they continue to do for us every day.

And I pay tribute the Royal British Legion for all the support they provide to our service men and women, our veterans and their families and for their tireless work for so many years to encourage the nation to remember.

While we’re in the park, at the cinema or watching the football; our service men and women are out there – day and night – fighting in the heat and dust.

Putting their lives on the line for us.

That’s the true character of the British armed forces – the Army, Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy of which we are so incredibly proud.

So today we stop to say thank you.

And to remember those who are no longer with us but whose sacrifice and valour will be honoured long after we are gone.

@BarackObama unusually silent today: I guess it is hard being President when you don't deserve to be there.
November 11, 2011
Friend & Supporter,
Today we celebrate the courage and sacrifice of all living veterans. They are the men and women who answered the call of duty with courage, love and devotion. They served something greater than themselves. They served the cause of freedom. And many to this day bear the scars of freedom, suffered on foreign battlefields, on the high seas and at high altitudes.
Today another generation of Americans have answered the call of duty -- in Afghanistan, Iraq, and on missions we don’t even know about today. Many have returned from those two conflicts forever changed by the experience of war. And today we are surrounded by generations of Americans who fought in previous conflicts: the first Persian Gulf War, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and throughout the Cold War. And though their numbers are dwindling, we still have with us the heroes of the Second World War. They include my father Ray Perry, and my father-in-law Dr. Joe Thigpen.
One relative on my wife Anita’s side of the family I never had the honor of meeting – Captain Jack Golden – fought in World War II. Fortunately, though Jack is not with us anymore, we have his many letters written from battlefields overseas. And on this special day, I wanted to share a few excerpts with you, so we can all get a small glimpse into the life of one of our nation’s many warriors.
Five days after landing in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, Jack writes home with pride about the success of his Regiment at Omaha Beach, a tank destroyer division of the First Army, 16th Regiment in the First Division:
“We landed in France and I guess you have heard that we did a good job. We really did. Our Regt. Fought better than I have ever seen them fight before. I am still giving them hell dad.” – June 11, 1944
But almost four months to the exact day after landing in France, following a long spell of inclement weather, and reports from home about production shortages, frustration is clearly starting to build in Jack’s mind, and likely amongst all the men:
“What is this stuff I read in the paper about the people at home getting ready for V-Day? If they were here with us they could understand just how long it will be before V-day…I will say that if production slows down and shipment slows down much more we will be having another D-Day and not a V-Day.” – October 5, 1944
The emotions seem to vary greatly after four months of war in France. The bitterness of two weeks ago is replaced by the poignant expression of love from a son to his father – a reminder that while he had experienced what no man should experience at any age, he was still just a 23-year old young man. Jack writes to his father:
“Dear Dad: I received your letter of Oct 2 and was really glad to hear from you. Even though you don’t write very often the letters you write do me a world of good. It makes me feel good all over…
“…I am getting very anxious to see you too daddy. It has been nearly two years since I last saw you. I have been a lot of places and had lots of experiences but I have never forgotten what you once told me about praying. I have had lots of chances since that time. I think perhaps it has saved my life a few times. I also have not forgotten that I have the best mother and dad in the world. Anything I do is done because of the things you have taught me to do and to do the best I can to make you glad I am your son.” – October 20, 1944
Jack’s reminiscing about home, and the recognition of his own mortality create a spiritual experience common among soldiers at war, as he prays for his own survival. And yet nothing can prepare a soldier for the loss of those close to you, as Jack wrote about in a letter soon after:
“I had my heart torn out an(d) thrown at me a few days ago. Capt. O’Brien was killed. Dave told me about it over the radio and I wouldn’t believe it. I took command of the company and am really having my hands full. I thought I was busy when I was Exec. Of the company, but I have twice as much to do now.” – November 25, 1944
Several months and a lot of action later, as reports reach home and loved ones read with excitement how close their sons are to victory, a hint of trepidation appears in a late-March dispatch from Jack. No one wants to get killed so close to the end of the war, and yet they continue to get the tough duties:
“No, mother we weren’t the first ones across the Rhine, but it didn’t take us long to get us over here. We haven’t got many divisions in the American Army I don’t guess. We are getting a little tired of hearing ‘Send the First, they are tried troops with experience.’” – March 24, 1945
Jack’s last letter is as reflective as any sent from the battlefield. He is fearful that not enough precautions are being taken prior to the assault on German towns. But he fears not just for his own life, but future generations of Americans unless there is a political and cultural shift back home, and a permanent commitment to a well-built, professional and lethal military. He writes:
“We are going to town again. There is only one thing wrong. There are too many German towns that we haven’t had time to fire our artillery into. I think we should fire about a thousand rounds into every town…Someday I will tell you why I think my children and possibly yours will have to fight over the same ground I did and it will be a different and harder war. We have got to have military training in America for years and years to come. We have got to be so powerful that we can strike and strike hard in a very short time. We have got to build our character, maybe I should say get hard and tough. Enough. Enough. After that outburst I had better tell my sweetheart that I still love her.” – April 3, 1945
I wish I could say this was Jack’s last letter before he caught the big boat home. But instead he died at the hands of a German sniper just weeks before the Germans surrendered. Jack Golden would never make it home and see his “daddy”. He would never see his sweet cousin – my mother-in-law – whom he affectionately called Sister. His remains are buried in an American cemetery in Germany. And his family would experience the great grief of another letter, this time from the commanding officer of the 16th Infantry:
30 April, 1945
Mrs. Reta M. Golden
Box 824
Seymour, Texas
Dear Mrs. Golden:
Please accept the sincere condolences of the officers and men of the 16th Infantry, on the death of your son, Captain Jack L. Golden, 0465929, who was killed in action on 15 April 1945 in Germany…
…Jack, at all times, was a good soldier and was well liked by both officers and men. He continually displayed the habits and bearing of an officer and gentleman, and he had the real respect and friendship of all who knew him. He died as he lived, courageously; in the performance of a difficult mission.
                                                                       Sincerely yours,
                                                                       FREDERICK W. GIBB
                                                                       Col, 16th Infantry
                                                                       Commanding
When I read Jack’s letters, as I am prone to do from time to time, I wonder if we have truly honored the depth of his sacrifice, and the sacrifice of so many who never made it home from places we recognize first and foremost because of the horrors of war: Normandy, Guadalcanal, Pearl Harbor, Anzio, North Africa, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, Baghdad, Kabul, and a thousand places in between.
It’s not just those who made the ultimate sacrifice that we must honor as Americans. It is also the heroes who made it home.  This day – Veterans Days -- we honor our living heroes. We do so this year on 11/11/11. Our veterans have served and protected the greatest nation on the face of the earth. They are the greatest American ambassadors of freedom. They gave their all so we would not have to. They freed millions from tyranny and oppression, arriving not as conquerors but liberators. The freedom of a great many is a tribute to the courage of so few.
Today another generation of Americans is at war. One by one the survivors return home, their lives forever changed. Many are so young their best days should be ahead of them. But only if we honor their sacrifice with deeds and not just words…only if we ensure they have transitional training to fill good jobs, access to quality health care because of the injuries and trauma they have sustained, and support to finish their education, afford a home and get on with their lives.
The valor of our veterans can never be captured fully in ceremonies or tributes – and certainly not in a single letter. But it can be recognized, celebrated and remembered nonetheless by all of us who breathe the air of freedom they so heroically defended. To all veterans, we offer the gratitude of a great nation, and our best wishes for a long and happy life lived forevermore in peace.
God bless,
Rick Perry

SERBIA: Gang rape by Muslim invaders has town demanding deportation of Muslims

Posted: November 8, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam | Filed under: Islamization of the West |35 Comments »The brutal gang rape of a British woman by 5 Afghan Muslims  has sparked a massive protest against illegal immigrants in a Serbian spa town. The 38-year-old woman – who bravely managed to film the attack on her mobile phone – was repeatedly raped after befriending a group of Afghan men in a park in Banja Koviljaca.
(Photo above is not the cell phone footage in this story but is a gang rape by Indonesian Muslims. Thanks Bill Clinton, for forcing Americans to fight the wrong enemy over there)
Austrian Times  Despite handing the video footage to police, only one alleged attacker – identified by police only as Abdurashid D., 25 – has been arrested.  Her harrowing phone video footage of the attack  is said by local media to show the faces of three of her attackers clearly.
Now local mothers have told police they are boycotting local schools from next week (nov 7) unless they clear out a local refugee centre containing more than 2,500 illegal immigrants which was built to hold just 120.
“These people are always hanging around the parks and streets during the day causing trouble,” said one mum. “They have no respect for us, no respect for women and we want them gone because they have no right to be here. “My daughter isn’t going to school again while four refugee rapists are still on the streets,” she added.
Police said that Abdurashid D. has admitted sex with the woman, but claims it was consensual, although he was unable to explain medical evidence showing injuries suffered by the woman. The rape occurred last week (27 Oct), but police only revealed the details after the woman had returned to the UK on Monday.

I agree... However, ethically or morally, In the end, what will it profit a man to tear down another, when it is clear that the others demise is inevidible..
I like me a good fight, and I like cain cuz he is a fighter.. I simply do not see the effort being productive, and if it did ever succeed, it will be like Clinton.. won't remove him from office..
Wednesday
John he is torn down this country... you should be ashamed to have the knights shield on your page, and front like you know what it mean. Cain needs to go on Dr. Phil, set the standard and a precedent by taking a lie detector test. Doing so can save his marriage and reputation. Now if you'll excuse me, the intelligence quotient means that I spend my time elsewhere.

Agreed he is systematically destroying the USA Economy.. Educating others WHO WILL VOTE 365 days from today is the most effective way to combat Obamma's Tyranny.. People have been trying to Impeach presidents for a long time now.. Aja, How long does that process typically take.. I'm guessing a lot longer than the 365 days.. How long after the Lewinski disclosure did Bill Clinton stay in Office, He was actually impeached, and He never left office... Why ? Cuz he fought the impeachment process, unlike Nixon who resigned.. But the Watergate scandal.. How long did that take to work its way through the system?... There is enough crap in the Fast & Furious ATF scandal to tie it to Obama and impeach him.. Unfortunately Eric Holder will take the fall instead, like a good pawn does... As far as Cain... be patient.. it will all evolve in due time.. that girl works for CBS... all is not as it seems

The Petition to investigate Obama for Breach of Public Trusthttps://www.facebook.com/groups/thesynthesis/doc/1559338711386
was filed 5-27. Subpoena was issued for his birth certificate from Hawaii 8-8. They were required to appear before the Judge thereafter, and a writ of Mandamus has been filed, commanding the judge and courts to act. Congress has had this for 6 months, they are awaiting final court details of Holder investigation and on Blagojevich, and once Blago goes to trial that corruption is public record, unlike Rezko's plea deal that is sealed, because Obama is implicated. The FBI has had an active investigation on him, but they are about to come to a conclusion on voter fraud soon. You can read the Writ of Mandamus here: 11-8-11 GA VOTES EDITION: SUN. Sheriff Joe threatened for probing eligibility

Says intimidation comes from drug lords, Obama fans: 'I'm not sure which are worse'

Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Amid death threats, Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio is scratching his head over the major media's virtual silence about his decision to investigate Barack Obama's eligibility to run for re-election.
"Getting death threats is nothing new for me," Arpaio told WND, referring to his national reputation as a tough enforcer of immigration laws. "But why has the media has decided to black out all news of our Obama investigation? That's what I don't understand.
"I'm a controversial guy and usually the media is all over me," he continued, "but when I decided to investigate Obama, the media has suddenly gone missing in action."
Arpaio said that if the media's strategy is to minimize the impact of his investigation by ignoring it, it is not likely to work.

"If the mainstream media thinks our investigation will go away if it remains unreported, they're wrong. The investigation is proceeding, and I fully anticipate we will publish a report early next year."
Jerome Corsi's New York Times best-seller, "Where's the Birth Certificate?", which addresses Obama's Social Security Number, is now available for immediate shipping, autographed by the author, only from the WND Superstore
He said his law enforcement investigation is being professionally conducted and is wide-ranging in scope. It includes an investigation into whether or not Barack Obama is using a fraudulent Social Security number, as WND has previously reported, as well as whether the birth certificate issued by the White House on April 27 is a forgery.
Arpaio said he was also surprised by how vile the threats he has gotten from Obama supporters turn out to be.
"I've got the drug cartels from Mexico sending me death threats," he said, "and now I have the Obama supporters sending me death threats. I'm not sure which are worse."
Arpaio told WND he turns over all threats to his office for investigation.

Speaking in Orlando Saturday
Undaunted by the lack of media attention, Arpaio is scheduled this Saturday to be the keynote speaker in Orlando, Fla., for the"Choose Liberty 2012" event held by the Eastern Orlando Tea Party and America Countdown to the 2012 Electionsat the Orlando Airport Marriott, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He said he plans in his Orlando presentation to cover his Obama investigation as well as the efforts his office is making to enforce immigration laws.
WND has previously reportedArpaio has demanded to see the original microfilm records of Obama's birth certificate held in the vault of the Hawaii Department of Health.
WND has also reported that on April 27, the White House released three versions of Obama's long-form birth certificate, each one of which appears fundamentally different from the other two:
  1. An electronic PDF computer file that contained a green background clearly showing the green hash marks of Hawaii Department of Health security paper;

The posse is also currently in the process of briefing various Arizona state officials about the progress of the investigation to date.

North Dakota Rejects ObamaCare ‘Exchange’

Posted by Michael F. Cannon
Here’s the story, from the Bismarck Tribune:
Angered by a federal health care law that most of them despise, North Dakota House Republicans defeated legislation Thursday to give state officials authority over a health insurance marketing agency that the law requires states to establish.
(Correction: ObamaCare does not require states to create an Exchange.)
They said endorsing state administration of the agency, which is called a health insurance exchange, would be tantamount to approving the federal health reform law itself.
“I certainly am not going to legitimize Obamacare with my vote,” said Rep. Wes Belter, R-Fargo. “We, as a state of North Dakota, need to follow some of the other states who have said no… It is the law, but the fight should not be over.”
Supporters … said Thursday’s vote was the state’s last realistic chance for running its own exchange, since deadlines are looming and the Legislature does not meet again until January 2013…
After a debate that lasted almost two hours, representatives voted 64-30 late Thursday to reject the legislation. All but 10 of the House’s 69 Republicans voted against the bill, while 20 of its 25 Democrats supported it…
Opponents of the bill said they resented the pressure, which they said was caused by unrealistic deadlines in the federal health care law.
Rep. Keith Kempenich, R-Bowman, compared the situation to high-pressure sales tactics in a used car lot.
“If the federal government was really sincere on trying to reform health care, they wouldn’t have put these artificial dates in,” Kempenich said. “Whenever I’ve seen things that get rushed like this, or they get where you’re pressured like this, usually, they’re full of it, and that’s what this is starting to look like.”

Nov 10, 2011 Supreme Court likely to take Obama health care case
By David Jackson, USA TODAY
Updated 23h 36m ago
By Alex Wong, Getty Images
The politics of President Obama's health care law could shift dramatically under an expected review by the Supreme Court.
The justices meet privately today to decide which of numerous appeals to take up -- and one of them is the health care law Obama signed in 2010. Legal analysts expect the high court to take the health care case, though the public announcement probably won't come until early next week.
The justices would hear arguments on the law sometime next year, and a decision could come by late June -- right smack in the middle of the 2012 presidential election.
Our USA TODAY colleague Joan Biskupic -- who outlines the health care legal issues here -- describes today's events at the high court:
This morning, the Supreme Court will review a series of appeals that could be the most consequential in more than a decade, including challenges to the Obama-sponsored health care overhaul. When they meet in an oak-paneled conference room off the chambers of Chief Justice John Roberts, the nine justices will be alone, with no law clerks or secretaries.
As they sit around a rectangular table, Chief Justice Roberts typically opens the session with a brief statement about the case, then the justices vote in order of seniority.
The junior justice, Elena Kagan, has the note-taking task. The overriding claim against the health care law is that Congress exceeded its power to regulate interstate commerce when it said most Americans must buy health insurance by 2014.
It requires a vote of four justices to accept a case for review. It requires a full majority -- at least five of the nine -- to resolve the dispute.
The results of the private conference usually are published on an "orders list" that comes out the following Monday, which in this situation would be Nov. 14.
On occasion, the justices issue an order on the same day as their conference.
Alternatively, they sometimes will hold a case over to another week's conference as they mull whether it should be granted and scheduled for further briefing and oral arguments.

Court rules that Church is liable for crimes of priests

By SIMON CALDWELL on Thursday, 10 November 2011
The High Court in London (Photo: PA)
A court has ruled that the Catholic Church can be held legally liable for the crimes of abusive clergy.
The ruling by the High Court in London for the first time defined in British law the relationship of a priest to his bishop as that of an employee to an employer, instead of seeing the priest as effectively self-employed.
This means that a bishop and a diocese can be punished for the crimes of a priest. Survivors’ groups hope that it will also mean that many people who claim to have been abused by clergy will be able to claim compensation more easily.
The court granted the trustees of the Diocese of Portsmouth extra time to appeal the decision.
The case involves a 47-year-old mother of three, referred to only by the initials JGE, who claims she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Fr Wilfred Baldwin as a seven-year-old girl in The Firs children’s home in Waterlooville, in southern England, in the early 1970s.
She claims that she also was attacked in the dressing room of a church on the day she made her first Communion.
Besides the Diocese of Portsmouth, she is also seeking damages from the English province of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, which ran the home, because she said the nuns witnessed the abuse but did not intervene.
The court was not asked to judge the truth of the allegations but was specifically asked, as a preliminary hearing on the case, to rule on the question of whether the “relationship between a Catholic priest and his bishop is akin to an employment relationship”.
Justice Alistair MacDuff said that although the priest had no formal contract of employment there were “crucial features” that made a bishop vicariously liable for his actions.
He said the Church gave Fr Baldwin the “premises, the pulpit and the clerical robes” and that he was given full authority and free rein in the community to “act as a representative of the church.”
“Whether or not the relationship may be regarded as ‘akin to employment,’ the principal features of the relationship dictate that the defendants should be held responsible for the actions which they initiated by the appointment and all that went with it,” said the judge.
JGE first made her complaint in 2006 when police officers investigating complaints against Fr Baldwin contacted her to ask if she had been abused by him. Inquiries concluded the same year with the death of the priest, at the age of 75.
JGE is now seeking compensation for pain, injury, humiliation and hurt feelings, saying that she suffered post-traumatic stress disorder, a borderline personality disorder, and that she has attempted suicide as a result of the abuse.
The court ruling was welcomed by the victims’ support group, Ministers and Clergy Sexual Abuse Survivors.
But in a statement the group also expressed frustration on behalf of “hundreds if not thousands of victims” who were seeking damages but would have to await the “outcome of the appeal now to be brought by lawyers employed by the Catholic Church seeking to have this latest ruling overturned”.
The group claimed that while the Church spent millions of pounds attempting to avoid liability “the victims receive no support, and their suffering continues as they are re-traumatized by having to go through such adversarial and hostile legal processes to achieve justice”.
The Portsmouth Diocese said in a statement that it was “committed to creating a safe environment for all” and that it “works hard to ensure the welfare of children and vulnerable individuals.”

“The judgment of Mr Justice MacDuff involves complex and fundamental legal issues which remain the subject of legal proceedings,” it added. “In the circumstances, the Diocese of Portsmouth does not consider it appropriate to make any further comment about the case at this time.”

Worthless Democrats walk away from Super CommitteeI don’t know who’s stupid idea the Super Committee was in the first place. John Boehner? Mitch McConnell? Obama? Who came up with the whole Super Committee is a complete and utter idiot. The whole thing is a stupid idea and not even constitutional. Anyway, it’s become blatantly obvious what the Marxist Democrats strategy is. They want the automatic cuts to go into effect (which will make heavy cuts to defense) and then blame the GOP. Today, Rand Paul told Sean Hannity that the Marxist Democrats picked up and walked away from the Super Committee.

Obama delays oil pipeline plan, discards 20,000 jobs #tcot #LUR #unions #1u bit.ly/rwnEVJ

POE STATEMENT ON KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today Congressman Poe (TX-02) issued the following statement responding to the Administration’s announcement that it will further delay its decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline project:
“I am extremely disappointed that the President has decided not to decide on the Keystone Pipeline,” said Poe. “His choice to punt this until after the election shows a failure to put jobs and the people before politics. This transparent move discredits the claim that creating jobs is the number one priority of this Administration. If that were true, the Keystone XL Pipeline project would have already been approved. This project would inject thousands of much needed jobs into our economy, while providing the United States with a stable and consistent source of energy. “
“The pipeline would end in my Congressional District and would bring many lost jobs in the energy sector back to Southeast Texas. People all around the nation are in need of a stable source of energy, and they are thirsty for jobs. This project will provide both, free of cost to the taxpayers. It will enhance our national security, our energy security and our economic security. Canada won’t wait for the 2012 United States Presidential election. Instead, they will turn to our competitors, the Chinese, who are eager to do business with them. It’s time for the President to pick a horse and ride it.”

“Occupy Wall Street” protesters claim to be fighting for the disenfranchised members of Main Street America. But their protests are exacting a significant toll on businesses in the cities where they have set up camp.
Oakland has been hit hardest. A week after “Occupy” protesters there rioted, vandalizing local businesses and clashing with police, city merchants say their sales are down by as much as 60 percent. “People don’t want to come downtown,” one business owner near the epicenter of the city’s protests told Mercury News.
“Things were good before the protests began,” the manager of another local establishment said. “Now it’s going to be hard to pay the rent.”
“People have lost 40 percent, 50 percent, 60 percent of their sales,” said another.
The violence and vandalism that have sprouted up at “Occupy” protests nationwide are, quite simply, not good for business. While much of it is incidental, a number of businesses perceived as hostile to the protests have been targeted with criminal acts.
Whole Foods Market in Oakland, for instance, had windows smashed and its exterior otherwise vandalized and spray painted.
But the damage done to Whole Foods pales in comparison to what two San Diego food vendors were forced to endure at the hands of “Occupy” protesters there.
A pair of Southland street cart vendors who were forced to shut down their businesses after “Occupy” protesters vandalized their carts are hoping to get some help from local residents…
Coffee cart owner Linda Jenson and hot dog cart operators Letty and Pete Soto said they initially provided free food and drink to demonstrators, but when they stopped, the protesters became violent…
Both carts have had items stolen, have had their covers vandalized with markings and graffiti, as well as one of the carts had urine and blood splattered on it,” said Councilman Carl DeMaio. [Emphasis added]
Unable to do business under such conditions, both carts have closed shop.
Meanwhile, at Zuccotti Park, the epicenter of the “Occupy” movement, protesters have taken to threatening and occasionally assaulting business owners and managers who will not comply with their every demand. The New York Post reported on this troubling exchange:
“I’ve been told, ‘Watch your back!’ 10 times,” Stacey Tzortzatos, owner of Panini & Co. Breads, located across from Zuccotti Park, told The Post yesterday.
She and her employees are terrified by the constant threats, which she said began after she demanded the protesters stop using her shop’s restroom as a place to bathe every day.
The final straw came about two weeks ago, when the demonstrators broke a bathroom sink, flooding the shop, and clogged the toilet–setting her back $3,000 in damages.
Another New York occupier flew into a violent rage when a nearby McDonalds refused to give him free food. He ripped a credit card machine from the counter and threw it at an employee.

Could This Be Why The Oakland Occupier Was Killed Last Night?

This is really something to think about. I Only hope we find GOD again before it is too late ! !

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees... I don't feel threatened.. I don't feel discriminated against.. That's what they are,
Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' o me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting
ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people
want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no
idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.
Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a
sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and
where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and
Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane Katrina)... Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response..
She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc.. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.
Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about.. And we said okay..

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it
doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with
'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we
believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about
sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public
discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think
of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit.

If not, then just discard it.. no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,

Ben Stein

Joe Frazier, Tragic Hero
The boxing legend, dead at 67.

‘Don’t you know I’m God?” taunted Muhammad Ali, in the first of the epic trilogy of heavyweight prizefights with Joe Frazier that defined the early 1970s. Ali even took to accompanying each word — Don’t — you — know — I’m — God? — with a swing of his fists, unleashing another flurry of his lightning-fast punches. Frazier, undaunted, singularly unaffected by Ali’s sophomoric doggerel and sophisticated psy-ops, kept boring in on his opponent, a steady, bobbing, weaving machine, and spat back through his bloodied mouthpiece: “Well, God, you gonna get whupped tonight!”
And very near the end of that first encounter between them, on March 8, 1971 — the Madison Square Garden spectacular between two undefeated heavyweight champions, billed, without hyperbole, as the Fight of the Century — Frazier made good on his promise.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
It was 26 seconds into the 15th round. With his signature roundhouse left hook — the 30th he’d landed, the final explosion in a breathtaking night of fireworks — Frazier connected with Ali’s right jaw, snapping his head back and dropping The Greatest to the canvas. Bedlam at the Garden! Ali was up quickly, but with that one punch, “Smokin’ Joe” entered the ranks of the immortal, one of only three professional fighters ever to put Ali down. The pride of Philadelphia had answered definitively, at least for one night, the questions that haunted boxing, and America at large, at the close of the fiery Sixties.
Who would triumph: the beautiful dancer and satirical poet, or the grunting, uneducated working man? Was history on the side of anti-establishment rebels and countercultural heroes, or unalloyed toughness and Richard Nixon’s silent majority? At last, America had an answer: The uglier man, the less captivating figure, the African American who was darker and came from more impoverished southern origins, but whom Ali derided, inexplicably and unforgivably, as the Uncle Tom between them, the traitor to his people; yes, for one night, this man, Joe Frazier, would prevail. “What a man!” marveled screen legend Burt Lancaster, of Frazier, in his ringside color commentary.
For those of a different mindset, the great event proved altogether depressing. “A very painful experience in every way,” Hunter S. Thompson lamented in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, “a proper end to the Sixties . . . [with] Cassius/Ali belted incredibly off his pedestal by a human hamburger, a man on the verge of death. Joe Frazier, like Nixon, had finally prevailed for reasons that people like me refused to understand — at least not out loud.”
Frazier himself bristled at others’ ascription of political symbolism to him, and even more at his eternal association with Ali. Smokin’ Joe wanted to be known simply as a great fighter and a people’s champion, not another chapter — even the ultimate one — in the towering Book of Ali. In this sense, Frazier’s death, at the pitiably young age of 67, brims with the cruelties that pockmarked his life and boxing career. For while Joe Frazier was truly a great fighter, he was not The Greatest — cruel, but true — and there can be no discussion, Frazier’s desires notwithstanding, of Frazier without Ali.
Indeed, it is worth pondering whether even Frazier’s transcendent moment of triumph over Ali would ever have come to pass had Ali himself been less a man. Had he bowed to the establishment — of which even William F. Buckley Jr. acknowledged Ali, in 1989, to have been “a special victim” — and accepted the call of the Vietnam-era draft board, staging easy exhibition matches for starstruck GIs across the Mekong Delta, Ali would never have been banned from professional boxing during the peak of his athletic prowess: from April 1967 to October 1970, by which time he had turned 28.

And had Ali’s reign as champion continued unchecked across the latter third of the Sixties, it is likely that the dwindling ranks of suitable opponents for The Greatest would have produced, in boxing circles, an irresistible clamor for Ali to meet Frazier, a hero of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, much earlier than March 1971. And in such circumstances, Ali would have made short work of Frazier: The Ali of 1967 was faster, sharper, less given to tomfoolery in the ring, flat-out better, than the Ali of 1971, and Frazier would not yet have reached his prime. What’s more, their showdown at the Garden was only Ali’s third bout after his three-year layoff, and it came just 90 days after Ali had endured 15 grueling rounds, in the same Madison Square Garden ring, against the confounding Argentinian slugger Oscar Bonavena.
Another cruelty of history and fate: Frazier attained the heavyweightchampionship only because he won the elimination tournament held after Ali was stripped of his license to fight. The capstone moment for Smokin’ Joe came on Feb. 16, 1970, when he defeated an otherwise forgotten heavyweight named Jimmy Ellis — best known as Ali’s sparring partner and the first opponent Ali would fight (and beat) after his historic loss to Frazier.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Crueler still: The boxing call most enduringly associated with Smokin’ Joe — perhaps the most famous boxing call of all time — is a testament to Frazier’s complete destruction, an oral epitaph at the nadir of his career: Howard Cosell’s hoarse battle cry of “Down goes FRAY-zhuh! Down goes FRAY-zhuh! Down goes FRAY-zhuh!” in the first round of the fight in which Frazier lost his heavyweight belt to George Foreman, in Jamaica, on Jan. 22, 1973. Foreman’s punches literally lifted Frazier off the canvas, and put him back down there, six times in two rounds.
A final cruelty: The Ali–Frazier–Foreman axis served, with unusual clarity, to disprove the applicability of the transitive property to sports. If A is greater than B, we all learned, and B is greater than C, then A must also, by definition, be greater than C. Not in boxing. Frazier floored Ali, and Foreman annihilated Frazier, so in transitive terms, Foreman should have absolutely decimated The Greatest. But in the Rumble in the Jungle, the Foreman–Ali fight held in Kinshasa, Zaire, on Oct. 30, 1974, and memorialized in the documentary When We Were Kings, Ali easily KO’d Foreman in eight rounds. In an instant, Ali became not only the first boxer to regain the heavyweight championship, but the undisputed conqueror of the transitive property.
That wasn’t really the final cruelty, of course; there followed the long anticlimax of Frazier’s post-championship life and career, and the irrevocable sentence he was doomed to serve out, as a character in the inescapable Book of Ali. But wherever Joe is smokin’ today, whatever ring now trembles at his plodding, bobbing, weaving, left-hooking genius, let us honor his humanity with the fervent wish that the place is packed to the rafters with appreciative fans, all there to see Joe Frazier, good and decent man, heroic fighter and heavyweight champion, and no one else.

Dear Lord: the level of godlessness and wickedness of our Democratic Senators surprises even your elect. Today, Al Franken asked us to repeal marriage and institute homosexuality as a recognized legal practice. I ask that You strike Al Franken with blight, as You have struck Senator Reid and his family. I ask that you prove to Al Franken that YOU are REAL, and that you will not tolerate his misuse of authority. TWITTER YOU WILL NOT STOP MY PRAYER OR SILENCE ME dear Jesus if You must come back sooner, please do not delay, I pray that I can bear up Your wrath and not lose faith if I am left behind. Here me Oh Lord, upon your holy throne, that our nation is under demonic control by Obama, who has dedicated our money to blood money and paying other gods to appease them with abortions to manifest the kingdom of the anti-Christ. Hear me, oh my ancestors of the Cherokee hear me, the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., as you were misrepresented today in a Democrat quoting you to deceive and lie about idolatry. Hear me oh Lord, in Your Temple, with everything that is good and right, as the angels shout HOLY HOLY HOLY You are God, there is NO OTHER: NOT OBAMA, NOT THE DEMOCRATS, NOT THIS DEFICIT; hear me Oh Lord and awaken your church to the travesty of spiritual leadership and perversity. Hear this petition as high as Heaven, as my grandfather calls the names from the Book of Life to be summoned to You Lord, hear me just as sure as I type these words: Obama's days have seen the fruitlessness and inerrant ways of not following you! MAY WE BE ASHAMED!!! MAY WE TEAR OUR CLOTHES IF OUR LEADERS SWEAR ON THE ALTAR OF IDOLATRY THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, MAKING IT LAW OF THE LAND, MAY WE THROW DUST INTO THE AIR, TEAR OUR CLOTHES, AND CRY TO HEAVEN THAT YOUR WRATH UPON US IS SURE TO COME SWIFTLY FOR NOT STOPPING THIS. As we cry and weep in tears to You Oh Lord, may we not stop crying HOLY HOLY HOLY.... let us not cast off the angelic rob and crown promised TO APPEASE WORLDLY MEN FIT FOR THE FIRE, SUITED TO BE CHAFF LEST YOUR LOVE AWAKEN THEIR HEARTS, MAY WE NOT FORGET YOUR LAW IN FREEDOM. Thank You for hearing us Lord. We are but mere men, who wish to cast off this mortal shell and be done with dealing with Democrats. Lord strengthen us, gird us up to continue fighting the good fight to not give in for our country to be as Rome and bow to idolatry to fall once more. May we continue to press on with heavy heads and hearts. May we not stop until You are recognized as You are in Heaven. In Your Precious Name, we ask humbly that you teach Al Franken a lesson, for the pain he's caused black people and Democrats our nation. Amen

Rick Perry Reads Top 10 List on 'Letterman' #6 and #2 :D

67

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, after offering up late-night fodder with his forgetful moment at this week's Republican presidential debate, opted to get in on the joke with an appearance on David Letterman's show Thursday night.

Capping a day of interviews in which he tried to laugh off the embarrassing moment, Perry gave the TV audience his own list of "Top 10 Rick Perry Excuses" for being unable to remember which three federal agencies he would eliminate.

In a separate interview on Fox News Thursday night, Perry explained that the campaign decided to have a "little bit of fun with it." His campaign website invited people to comment on which agency they'd like to forget -- Perry said the site got over 2,000 hits Thursday.

On Letterman, Perry chalked his brain freeze up to everything from Mitt Romney's good looks to a deficiency of energy drinks.cholorecords CHOLA

Comments on the GOP Debate held at the Reagan library:
All candidates made a strong showing and upped the ante from political personalities to their stance on the issues. This debate really moved to the meat and potatoes; we moved passed name identification and ideology to a serious discussion on fixing the problems America faces. When picking a party nominee, one must decide which approach is best.

So far we have these 2012 ballot issues, of voter importance:
A - economy B - health care/future C - security
Legend:
RED - GOP policy PURPLE - Tea Party policy BLUE - Democrat/Stupidcrat/Kleptocrat policy

1) The Perry Platform:
A) negating federal regulations/reduction of government to create jobs
B) reform Social Security, return Medicaid reform to states, defunding Obamacare
C) accountable border control policy where the federal government does its job

2) The Cain Platform:
A) the 9-9-9 base budget plan - prevents waste, fraud, and abuse and returns the fiscal sanity of paying taxes
B) repeal Obamacare, by tweaking Social Security, tweaking Medicaid and reforming Medicare
C) we will not permit our soil to be used as an operating base or financing mechanism for the Taliban

3) The Paul Platform:
A) government must return to the four umbrellas of original design
B) government must get out of health care; that is left up to the individual and funding to the states
C) immediate troop withdrawal/funding for all conflict goes through Congress, no a bilateral Executive-Military decision

4) The Bachmann Platform:
A) wants a Balanced Budget Amendment to remove uncertainty, (vote is scheduled on that for the end of this year)
B) repeal Obamacare as it has destroyed jobs and created uncertainty about taxation
C) eradicate the Obama ideology that makes us vulnerable to attack

5) The Santorum Platform:
A) sees job creation as an integral societal problem
B) repeal Obamacare
C) feels that Obama’s corruption has eroded the social and moral fabric of America, which must be replaced with different leadership

6) The Palin Platform:
A) sees job creation through reduction of government spending and paying down the deficit/restoring America’s credit rating and integrity financially
B) strike through Obamacare funding - declare it null and void, according to court rulings, and work on substantive health reform
C) taking back our country, through grassroots initiatives will secure our country without bell and whistles of massive federal funding of security initiatives
Yesterday at 11:55am · Like
‎****************************************************************************************************DO NOT VOTE BELOW THIS LINE*********************

7) The Newt Platform:
A) systematic Reagan-style job creation plan
B) systematic repeal and reform of health care
C) will be more actively engaged with military expenses

8) The Obamoney Platform:
A) doesn’t see job creation except as a tax-related issue/out-of-touch
B) *offers Obamacare waivers, which doesn’t go far enough in defunding unconstitutional and corrupt legislation originally designed to function as a funnel program for Thomson prison
C) relies on military rather than militia for advice for the future of national security

9) The Huntsman Platform:
A) thinks Obama’s policies have killed jobs - yet has no clear strategy
B) has a different idea than Obamacare on health care reform, but it’s not Obamacare
C) doesn’t hold a staunch debate posture on security, just feels it is an arm of government instead of an integral part

Obamoney and Huntsman can’t win the GOP nomination: their platforms reflect the same ideas and approaches of Moderate Democrats. I would comment further on the Democrats’ platforms, but I have seen no debate or appeals to the public. It is as if they have already lost the 2012 election and have no fresh ideas on how to fix our nation’s problems.

Democrats have resigned to spin the wheels of Obama’s bus in the rut of economic hell. Obama doesn’t even have a platform!!

His “economic plan” is a dirty trick bag of stimulus.

Though not as large as the super bank bailouts, where the bank has held onto $1 trillion of taxpayer money without loaning or fixing their “MORTGAGE-CRISES-BANKER-SPURNED GAMBLING ADDICTION”, they have arrested Geithner and Bernanke’s ability to do anything to thwart a second market collapse. This is good for the stock market, but bad for Main Street. Not that anyone wanted the Geithner-Bernanke New World Order style banking system, when global markets have weighed heavily on top of our $14.5 trillion dollar growing deficit.
The Obama-Biden debt financing to China can’t continue; as China will not allow us to do so, as their market is strained by our lack of recovery.

The only thing Obama proposes is a cosmetic approach before the 2012 election:
MINI STIMULUS #1,#2,#3

#1 UNFUNDED unemployment checks/unemployment insurance extensions
#2 UNFUNDED infrastructure, which should be left up to states applying for grants
#3 UNFUNDED tax cuts for businesses to create jobs

= $1.5 trillion of UNFUNDED GOVERNMENT SPENDING interest included

WITH SUCKER BONUS - some people will be eligible to temporarily receive Social Security that are capable of working at least a part-time job

All the while Obama is facing impeachment over his lack of citizenry on 9-14 with the Hawaii Department of Health summoned to court to answer to the court as to why they could not produce ANY birth certificate on 8-8, when it took three years to get a court ordered subpoena in response to numerous lawsuits filed and corresponding FBI investigations, regarding pending corruption and and criminal fraud charges.

I have heard Harry Reid speak twice on CSPAN since the “DEBT CEILING DEBACLE”, and he blames the Republicans and the Tea Party for what he calls “NO IDEAS” presented by his party: he cites “their obstructionism” and “they’re holding the American economy hostage”, and these are the only things that they can contribute on their part.
Yesterday at 11:55am · Like
Yeah, I guess when Democrats only present more spending as “the Holy Grail” to job growth and economic restoration when there is no gold to back it, Democrats really only do the best job projecting the problems that they created onto the other parties by further obstructing and holding the economy hostage to their fiscal insanity.

I have not seen any different ideas Democrats have other than UNFUNDED GOVERNMENT SPENDING. When you don’t have the money, and spend it anyway, it is called STEALING. This is why I will refer to Democrats as Kleptocrats and Stupidcrats from now until 2012.

The leadership of the Democratic Party displays no palatable nominees for the Presidency with UNFUNDED GOVERNMENT SPENDING AS THEIR PLATFORM.

Their party has catered to 20% of voter base and alienated the majority of taxpayers, 65% of the emerging majority is attuned with the GOP and Tea Party.

Why taxpayers feel that the Democrats’ approach has not worked:
nearly half of the voter base that is not Republican or Tea Party have not paid in taxes regularly for the past 15-20 yrs., and
Obama’s “CONSTITUENTS” have increasingly demanded more w/o paying taxes:
1) food stamps
2) Medicaid/Medicare
3) cell phones
4) housing loans based on racial privilege without income or intelligence quotient
5) education funding, rather than earned scholarships for talent or scholastic achievement

When $.42 of the dollar goes to defense, you can’t have $.50 leveraged in public debt in the form of UNFUNDED GOVERNMENT SPENDING.

Obama borrowed nearly $9 trillion against gold to fund his 2010 budget and the 2011 budget that he never wrote, by expanding UNFUNDED GOVERNMENT SPENDING in the form of social programs and unemployment without job creation or revenue from cuts or reforms.

Obama has levied the debt of 20% of constituents on the back of 65% of taxpayers, to the point taxpayers are losing jobs from economic slowdown and causing those who would not be on food stamps to join the roll, adding to the burden.

Instead of attacking poverty, as was his pledge state-by-state, he has IMPOVERISHED the entire nation, trying to spend his way out of poverty, rather than working America out of it by jobs, revenues, and cuts.

America could never afford or wanted Obama’s agenda in 2008; Obama lied about it all, and his supporters see now that they were duped as well. We now see if for what it really is: a grand scheme of theft, LIKE GRAND THEFT LOTTO: where you pay in a little and cash in on the money you never had to earn or have to pay back.

MF Global Lays Off Vast Majority of Broker-Dealer Employees

BY MICHAEL J. DE LA MERCED AND BEN PROTESS
The court-appointed trustee overseeing the liquidation of MF Global’s broker-dealer unit laid off 1,066 employees on Friday, keeping only a skeleton staff to assist in the dissolution of the business.
The trustee, James W. Giddens, will rehire 150 to 200 employees to help wind down the broker-dealer and process bankruptcy claims. Not all of these people will be among the staff members who were laid off on Friday, a person briefed on the matter told DealBook.
Some of those who will be hired had left the firm weeks ago, said this person, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
MF Global’s laid-off staff will be paid through Nov. 15. They will not be paid severance, but will receive health benefits through the end of the month, according to a person close to the firm.
Employees were notified in town hall meetings at MF Global’s offices in Midtown Manhattan and in Chicago. Many of those staff members had been reporting to work every day, assisting customers and helping the trustee in his investigation into an apparent shortfall in MF Global’s client money.
Mr. Giddens, meanwhile, plans to move what remains of MF Global’s broker-dealer staff in New York into a smaller and less expensive work space. The trustee’s office has already located a new office and plans to sign a lease imminently, according to the person briefed on the matter.
The division’s employees in Chicago will remain in their offices for “an undetermined but limited” time, because the location already has a trading floor and other important systems.
The news is unsurprising. Since MF Global filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 31, its core broker-dealer unit has begun the slow process of liquidating itself under the rules laid out in the Securities Investor Protection Act. Mr. Giddens and the various exchanges where MF Global did business have already returned some customer money, and will soon turn to processing claims for the remainder of client money.
“The termination of employees and closure of operations is a necessary part of the court-ordered liquidation of MF Global Inc. and is consistent with the trustee’s obligations under SIPA to preserve assets and identify and marshal other property to maximize the estate in a manner that is fair to all customers and other creditors,” a spokesman for the trustee said in a statement.
A spokesman for MF Global said: “We are saddened by the trustee’s actions today to terminate so many of our colleagues.”
MF Global also retains several hundred staff members at its parent company, though it has laid off a significant portion of those employees and will continue to cut workers, the person close to the firm said.

IMF warns rich states may fall back into recession

WASHINGTON | Fri Nov 11, 2011 11:03am EST
(Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund on Friday warned that advanced economies could fall back into recession unless policy-makers move with greater urgency to agree on policies to boost growth.
In a note prepared for the G20 summit in Cannes, France, last week but only published on Friday, the IMF said the economic recovery in advanced economies "remains in low gear."
"Policy paralysis and incoherence have contributed to exacerbating uncertainty, a loss of confidence, and heightened financial market stress," the IMF said.
The fund said advanced economies urgently need to spell out credible medium-term fiscal plans and outline further financial sector reforms. In key emerging economies, governments should allow for faster exchange-rate appreciation, it added.
In particular, the IMF said there was "considerable uncertainty" about how fiscal sustainability will be achieved in the United States, Japan, and some euro area economies.
"To reduce this uncertainty, these economies need to move quickly to put in place credible medium-term consolidation plans, which will help preserve room for adequate short-term fiscal support to the recovery," it added.
The G20 summit was taken up with trying to avert a euro- zone meltdown, in particular in Greece and Italy.

CORDUROY...

Reading Between the Lines, This Is a Big Date for Corduroy Fans

11/11/11 Reminds Some of a Favorite Fabric, Ideal for Bikinis and Trench Coats

By SARAH E. NEEDLEMAN

For lovers of corduroy, including Sandra Pieloch of Brooklyn, N.Y., no day can ever be more meaningful than 11/11/11.
"It's the day that most closely resembles corduroy ever," says Ms. Pieloch, a 35-year-old graphic designer. "It's the date we've been preparing for."

Corduroy fans Kurt Schlachter and Andrew Yamato, from left, eject a non-corduroy-wearing attendee at a club meeting. Corduroy Looks
Ms. Pieloch is referring to the ribbed textile's biggest fans, and in particular, the roughly 5,000 members of the Corduroy Appreciation Club, which boasts chapters nationwide and as far away as South Africa and London. The club's mascot is a whale, a reference to the term "wale," the ridge in corduroy.
As the club's director of "cordination," Ms. Pieloch is responsible for setting up events like Friday night's runway show in New York, slated to exclusively feature corduroy duds donated by fashion brands L.L. Bean Inc., Perry Ellis International Inc.'s Original Penguin, American Apparel Inc., Ben Sherman Group Ltd. and others.
"We're having what we believe to be an epic and historic sartorial display," Ms. Pieloch says, adding that at least two pieces to be displayed were designed specifically for Friday's show. Other items expected to be in the show include a corduroy bikini, a corduroy corset, a corduroy dinner jacket and a Teflon-coated corduroy trench coat.
To corduroy enthusiasts, just about anything made up of vertical lines or horizontal lines can be considered symbolic of the durable woven fabric. Linear-themed foods such as Ruffles potato chips are served at club meetings, held just twice a year on the 11th day of January and November. Beverages include 1/4Rye beer—punningly pronounced "quarter-rye"—a homemade brew consisting of 25% malt rye.
"You are a person that likes corduroy. You are interested in meeting other people that wear corduroy," says Miles Rohan of the club's constituents. Mr. Rohan, 35, says he founded the group in New York in 2005 as a way to bond with people who share his fondness for the warm, soft feel of corduroy in a piece of clothing such as a jacket, pair of slacks or hat.
At first, attracting members wasn't easy. Mr. Rohan, who works as Nickelodeon's director of knowledge management, says he initially wanted the club to maintain a low profile. Rather than post an ad in a newspaper or online, he printed up small cards with the club's name and email address and handed them to strangers he came across who were wearing corduroy. He also placed them in the pockets of corduroy clothing for sale in retail stores in the hopes that buyers would find them and contact the club.
"I wanted to emulate the Elks Club or Knights of Columbus," he says. "That sort of secret society is attractive to me."
The club slowly gained traction over the years, but in recent months its ranks have swelled as word of the significance of the Nov. 11 date has spread online.
To join, applicants must recite an oath and pledge to regularly wear clothing made of corduroy, and to keep mum about details of what goes on during meetings. "We practice secret rituals," says Mr. Rohan. "I wouldn't call it dancing but there are chants."
Failure to show up without wearing at least three different pieces of corduroy is cause for rejection. A far worse offense, however, is to try to enter a meeting while draped in a rival fabric, a move that Kurt Schlachter, one of the club's tallest and most imposing members, is tasked with preventing.
Security is necessary "to keep the undesirables out—usually some ruffian at each big event," says Mr. Schlachter, 32. And who, typically, is an undesirable? "Some advocate of denim or velvet who shouldn't be there," he says.
On the scale of undesirable, denim is considered less offensive than velvet, because "we like to think of corduroy as utilitarian fabric, and denim fits that, too."
After the last Nov. 11 meeting, the club received an email from a member and velvet sympathizer complaining that disparaging remarks were made about velvet, corduroy's nonridged relative.
"Might I remind you that, traditionally, much the same as corduroy, velvet is heavily associated with nobility," wrote the sender, a New York art dealer who goes by the alias Julius Fefferpot. "With all due respect, we ask that in the future the Corduroy Appreciation Club be more mindful of our common origins and work to uphold the integrity of your sister fabric."
Corduroy's origins date back to the late 1700s England, not France as is widely believed, says James Pruden, a spokesman for Cotton Inc., a research and promotion nonprofit headquartered in Cary, N.C. The term corduroy is most likely a combination of the words "cord" and the now obsolete "duroy" or "deroy," meaning a woolen garment, he says. "The thinking is that corduroy is so warm and such an autumnal fabric in the same way that wool is something you wear in cooler months," he says.
Today, approximately 2% of pants available at U.S. retailers are made of corduroy, according to Cotton Inc. As the Corduroy Appreciation Club's sole sponsor, the organization covers the cost of the venues the group rents for meetings and special events, in addition to providing marketing support. To fund other expenses, the club sells corduroy ties produced by a manufacturer in Queens for $41.11, Mr. Rohan says.
Friday night's festivities, to be held at the Desmond Tutu Center in New York starting promptly at 8:11 p.m., are expected to draw 350 corduroy enthusiasts, the maximum number allowed. It may be the club's last gathering.
"I admire things that stop," says Mr. Rohan. "It seems like a good way to go out on top."
One special guest for the evening is Avery Sorensen, whose mom says she'll be clad in a grey corduroy skirt and red corduroy jacket at the event.
The sixth grader turns 11 on Friday.
It's "a once in a lifetime opportunity," says Avery's mother, Lara Sorensen, an administrative worker at a New York synagogue, who plans to wear black corduroy slacks.

Lima, Peru (LifeNews/CFAM) — This week a UN committee told the government of Peru it must liberalize its country’s abortion laws and compensate a teenage girl who was denied an abortion in 2009.
The Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), a New York-based pro-abortion law firm, reported on the conclusion of a proceeding under the optional protocol of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), even though the official decision has not yet been published by the CEDAW committee. It involves the case of L.C. v. Peru, brought before the CEDAW committee by CRR.
The CRR touts this disposition as a groundbreaking victory for abortion advocates. The CEDAW committee reportedly ordered the Peruvian government to provide L.C. reparation and compensation, as well as rehabilitation measures. CRR also reports that the committee ruled that Peru must amend its laws to permit abortion in cases of rape, and guarantee that abortions will be carried out in those cases when they are legal.
While the L.C. case is another notch in the belt for abortion advocates, it is neither as great nor groundbreaking a victory as CRR presents it to be.
The case is not a great victory because of its limited legal significance. While the optional protocol to the CEDAW convention does allow individuals to bring complaints to the CEDAW committee in quasi-judicial proceedings, the disposition of these complaints has little to no legal significance. The optional protocol calls these dispositions “Views” and “Recommendations” and not orders or rulings. Moreover, the views of the committee are not binding on States. The protocol merely asks that the States involved in these proceedings give the committee views “due consideration.”
Nor is the case groundbreaking because the position of UN bodies on abortion has been known for a long time. Peru is one of several Latin American countries that criminalize abortion. These countries are repeatedly scolded by UN bodies for failing to come into the fold. The Human Rights Committee told Peru to change its abortion laws in 2005 in the K.L. v. Peru case, another optional protocol proceeding, but Peru stood its ground. It has also been ordered by CEDAW to change its laws on abortion before, and again, it has not let itself be pushed around.  It remains to be seen whether Peru still has the political will to resist capitulation.

Pregnancy Center Opens Next Door to Planned Parenthood

In Idaho, Brandi Swindell and local pro-life advocates have opened a new pregnancy center next door to a Planned Parenthood abortion business.
“We believe that all life is created with an intrinsic value. We are motivated to uphold the dignity of women and the lives of their children. Stanton Healthcare provides broad-based services to the women and men experiencing an unexpected pregnancy in an environment that upholds physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Stanton Healthcare Services also promotes sexual integrity and gives assistance to those struggling emotionally or physically from previous abortion or pregnancy loss,” the pregnancy center says in its website.
Swindell talks about the new pregnancy center in a YouTube video:
Jennie Stone of Live Action’s blog gives her impression and thoughts:
Pregnant women now have a compassionate, pro-motherhood alternative to a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Boise, Idaho.  Stanton Healthcare is a non-profit medical center founded by Christian activist Brandi Swindell, and it is now located right next door to the Planned Parenthood abortion center.
Although Planned Parenthood claims to offer choices to women, nearly 98% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services are abortions, which garners them over one-third of their annual clinic revenue.  Hannah Brass, legislative director with Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest, claims “there isn’t one option on the table that I think you could say we don’t provide.” However, the Stanton Healthcare clinic offers pregnant women entirely free services such as pregnancy care, adoption assistance, baby supplies, parenting classes.  Considering only about 2% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnant patients continue their pregnancies, and they certainly do not provide free baby supplies nor parenting classes (so much for the “Parenthood” aspect of the organization), Brass’ statement is completely untrue.  The only pregnancy option the Boise Planned Parenthood directly participates in is abortion.
It’s clear which clinic truly offers real solutions to women facing unexpected pregnancies without monetary motivations, and which one preys off their vulnerability with dollar signs in their eyes.

The shooting came at the end of a four-hour standoff with the suspect at a home on Birch Street near Hiram.
Police are identifying the suspect as 33-year-old John Edward McCrary, whom police want as the "cross-dressing bandit" who robbed a BB&T bank branch on Halloween in Marietta.
Paulding sheriff's Sgt. Brandon Gurley said deputies went to the house around 8 pm. in response to a stolen vehicle being located.
"When they made contact with the person at the residence, he pulled a handgun and began threatening suicide," Gurley said.
"During the negotiations process, it was discovered that the person had active warrants for robbery and aggravated assault out of Cobb County," Gurley said.
He said that after several hours of negotiations, "the suspect eventually pointed the gun at deputies, forcing them to fire their weapons, striking the suspect."
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, Gurley said.

Probation officer maintains innocence amid bribe accusations By Mark Winne

FIRED PROBATION OFFICER HAS HIS HERMAN CAIN MOMENT....

(I DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR THIS MAN, NOT ONE BIT: NOW HE KNOWS HOW IT FEELS TO BE A COMMON MAN, BEING HARASSED BY CREDITORS, WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET WHEN WORKING AN HONEST DAY’S JOB THAT DOESN’T MAKE ENOUGH TO PAY ONE’S BILLS. NOW HE KNOWS WHAT EVERYONE WHO CAME INTO THAT MORROW PROBATION OFFICE FELT, HAVING TO PAY EXORBITANT PROBATION FEES TO CLAYTON COUNTY, WHEN THE GOVERNMENT TAKES OVER THE WEALTH OF ITS CITIZENS FOR MANDATORY MINIMUMS AND OUTDATED DRUG LAWS. NOW HE KNOWS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE FIRED OVER ACCUSATIONS OF CHARACTER AND NOT HAVE ANY RECOURSE OR MEANS THROUGH AN ATTORNEY TO OVERCOME IT, BECAUSE HE IS TOO BROKE-JUST LIKE THOSE ON PROBATION. I GUESS HE APPEALED TO THE PRESS BECAUSE HE CAN’T PASS A LIE DETECTOR TEST. THIS MAN COULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR MORAL TURPITUDE, MUCH MORE SERIOUS THAN BEING FIRED. HE SHOULD KEEP UP HIS WHINING AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS....)

MORROW, Ga. —
The allegations against a fired state officer range from lying to offering clean drug screens to probationer in return for sex, money or clothing.

But Channel 2's Mark Winne learned about them in an unusual way: The officer himself told him.

Bruce Brown said now, financially he's about as broke as some of the convicted criminals he used to check up on, for crimes ranging from shoplifting to murder.

Brown said if he had done what he was accused of he should be arrested too. But, he said he didn't and he hasn't been.

"They accused you of being a crook when you're supposed to be keepin' an eye on the crooks? I know. What happens inside? It tore me apart. And you know, it has me still puzzled till today," Brown told Winne.

Brown said he's asking the Georgia Department of Corrections to make a big correction and undo his firing for serious allegations he said were made by convicted felons.

"I didn't do anything wrong at all. I think I'm just a victim and there's nothing I can do about it. That's why I called you. Cause I need a voice," Brown said.

Brown told Winne he's a Gulf War combat veteran who was with corrections17 years until he was fired from his job as a probation surveillance officer at the Morrow Probation Office Sept. 21.

"I felt empty, lost, frightened," Brown said. "Bill collectors are ringing my phone constantly."

A corrections document addressed to Brown said "you denied everything. You stated that you never asked probationers to give you money for clean drug screens."

"I was told that I approached female probationers for sex. If they had sex with me, I'd let them skip the drug screen," Brown said

The document also said Brown admitted lying.

"I did not lie," he said. Brown told Winne he even passed a polygraph test to prove he wasn't lying.

Brown said he is also accused of accepting clothes as a bribe from a probationer who owned a clothes store. Brown said he was accused of telling an investigator he would've accepted them if delivered for the office donation closet he said.

"Honestly, I want my job back and I'll go in there with no harsh remarks against no one. I'll go back to work and do what I used to do. It's a part of me," Brown said.

A corrections spokeswoman said they stand by the action that was taken.

The document said "there were also uncorroborated reports of misdeeds and quid pro quos with probationers."

Again, Brown denies wrongdoing.

The document also said, "the burden of proof in employment cases is simply more likely than not."

In one southern California county, prisoners will soon have to pay for the privilege of staying in jail.

Riverside County, California will start charging prisoners $142.42 per day of their prison stay, CNNMoney reports. The county's board of supervisors approved the measure on Tuesday as a way to save an estimated $3 to $5 million per year. Not every prisoner will be forced to pay up, however. The county will review each prisoner's case individually to determine if they can afford the fee.
The fee comes as the California correctional system continues to struggle with budget woes. Last month, in an effort to save money, the state transferred responsibility for lower-level drug offenders, thieves and other convicts to counties. The "prison realignment" is one of many measures the state has taken in recent years to close its budget gap. The California Supreme Court is considering this week whether the state broke the law when it used re-development funds to close a shortfall a few years ago, according to the Wall Street Journal.
But at some prisons, there still may be room for cost cuts. A California prison nurse was paid a salary of $269,810 in 2010 after working thousands of hours in overtime. Indeed, the five highest-paid California state employees all work in the prison system, according to LA Weekly.
California isn't the only state coping with cuts to its budget and prison system. Jefferson County, Alabama filed for the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history Wednesday after amassing massive debt and contending with a huge budget shortfall.
Other states have also considered extreme measures in order to cut prison-related costs. In Washington, corrections officials are considering leaving unsupervised thousands of former prisoners currently on parol in an attempt to cut costs, according to the Seattle Times. Thousands of prisoners in Texas have been eating two meals a day on weekends since April in a bid to save the prison system money. In Camden County, Georgia, officials mulled the idea of sending prisoners to work as firefighters to cope with budget woes.
But some have pushed back against the trend. In Minnesota, department of corrections officials argued in April that proposed cuts to the state's prison system were so deep that they would endanger public safety, according to CBS Minnesota. While in New York, the State Corrections Officers Union, told Gov. Andrew Coumo in February that his proposal to cut 3,500 prison bedswould put guards who look over violent inmates in danger, the New York Daily News reported.
Though the lingering effects of the recession only made worse the budget woes of many prison systems, the problem wasn't born out of the financial crisis. The number of offenders serving life sentences in prison quadrupled between 1984 and 2008, USA Today reports.
And while state prisons may be suffering, federal prisons are filling that same pinch. President Obama's combined budget requests for fiscal years 2011 and 2012 included a 10 percent increase in funding for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, bringing the total to more than $6.8 billion, according to Mother Jones.

Advocates: State's mental health system improving, but gaps exist

By Misty Williams
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia has been rapidly rolling out community services for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled this year, but advocates say much work is left to do to help children with behavioral challenges and to foster better coordination of care among medical doctors and mental health specialists for all patients.
Jason Getz, jgetz@ajc.comMolly Schultz writes down information during an Adult Mental Health and Addictive Disease workshop during a town hall meeting.
The state has opened new crisis stabilization units, peer support centers and other services to help mentally ill adults live productive lives -- the result of a five-year agreement between the state and the U.S. Department of Justice. It needs to put that same urgency into helping children -- an issue left unaddressed in the deal -- said Cynthia Wainscott, a mental health advocate in Bartow County.
“If we don’t, we will be overwhelmed by more sick adults in the future,” Wainscott said.
The issue is one focus of a new report from the nonprofit Carter Center examining ways communities can work with the state and identify local resources to establish the unique behavioral health services they need. The center recently hosted the first of three regional community town hall meetings in Cartersville to get input from local leaders, advocates, families, consumers and peer support counselors. Other meetings in metro Atlanta and Savannah still need to be scheduled.
“Nothing works unless you develop that grass-roots support,” said Lei Ellingson, associate director of the center’s mental health program. "They have to invest in it."
Existing gaps
Last fall, Georgia reached an agreement with the Justice Department following an investigation into the abuse and deaths of dozens of patients in state mental institutions. Since then, the state has stopped admitting developmentally disabled people -- who have lifelong physical or mental impairments that prevent them from living on their own -- into state hospitals. It also plans to provide community-based support services to 9,000 mentally ill individuals.
Those efforts are critically important but not enough, Ellingson said. The mental health needs of children are addressed in education, child welfare, juvenile justice and other settings -- creating a need for cross-agency coordination to improve a fragmented system of care, she said.
Statewide in 2009, 11 percent of children ages 9 to 17 -- totaling nearly 140,000 -- had significant behavioral impairments, according to the center's report.
The study is a good analysis of gaps that continue to exist in Georgia mental health care, said Tom Wilson, a spokesman for the state Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. Georgia has made a strong commitment to serve children and adolescents in their communities, including moving all kids with mental health issues out of state institutions in 2009, he said.
The state is considering the report's recommendations, such as adding a Department of Education representative onto the Behavioral Health Coordinating Council, which already includes the heads of the Departments of Juvenile Justice and Community Health and other agencies, Wilson said.
Roughly 50 percent of behavioral disorders appear before a child turns 14, and 75 percent begin to show by age 24, the study shows. They're more at risk of getting in trouble with authorities and dropping out of high school, Wainscott said, adding that catching a problem early can “prevent that downward life spiral."
Integrating care
Abused as a child, 52-year-old Mary Jacobs didn’t get the help she needed until recently.
Less than six months ago, the Carrollton woman was ready to end her life. She suffered from post-traumatic stress and dissociative disorders and wound up in mental hospitals against her will. A falling out with family left her feeling there was no reason to go on. She had a will drawn up and ensured her grown children had access to her bank account.
But when Jacobs walked into Cartersville’s new peer support center -- one of the state's new services -- for advice on writing final letters to her kids, she instead found a network of people who had been through similar traumas and understood her anger at the failures of the state’s mental health system.
“They were living, breathing examples of survival,” she said. “That place saved my life.”
Whether in children or adults, identifying and treating mental issues as early as possible can lead to less severe outcomes and shorter recovery times, Ellingson said.
One key to improving health outcomes and providing more cost-effective care is better coordination among primary care doctors and behavioral health specialists, according to the center’s study.
Individuals with serious mental illness who are served by public mental health systems die on average 25 years earlier than the general population from largely treatable physical ailments, the report states. For instance, people who suffer from depression are less likely to take their medications for high blood pressure or diabetes.
Georgia is partnering with universities to train up-and-coming doctors how to interact with the mentally ill and connect them with other resources, such as employment support, not just prescription drugs, Wilson said.
The majority of depression cases are handled by primary care physicians, in part, because family doctors know their patients well, said Dr. Leonard Reeves, chairman of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. In severe cases, they refer patients to psychiatrists, he said, but there is a shortage of psychiatry specialists in the state.
In Cartersville, the Highland Rivers Community Service Board -- which provides mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services -- is partnering with a local group on a new facility that would include medical and mental health professionals under one roof.
Transportation can be a huge barrier for low-income individuals, so having a one-stop shop where a physician can refer someone to a psychiatrist down the hall is helpful, service board CEO Jason Bearden said. The facility could open in the spring.
Jacobs, who still attends classes at the Bartow County peer support center, said she hopes mental health services will continue to grow and that she can someday become a peer counselor herself.
"I'm on the road back to work, instead of draining the system," she said. "The whole world has changed for me."

A Hidden Shame

In January 2007, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution began a yearlong series of articles that revealed more than 100 patients of Georgia's state psychiatric hospitals had died under suspicious circumstances during the previous five years. In response to the articles, the U.S. Justice Department opened an investigation into whether the state was violating the civil rights of hospital patients and others in the mental health system. State and federal officials reached an agreement last year that calls for wholesale changes, including a new emphasis on community-based care. This article examines gaps not covered by the agreement.

Look up moral turpitude in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.

Moral turpitude is a legal concept in the United States that refers to "conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals."[1] It appears in U.S. immigration law from the nineteenth century.[2] In other common law jurisdictions it is dated or obsolete.[3]
The concept of moral turpitude escapes precise definition but has been described as an "act of baseness, vileness or depravity in the private and social duties which a man owes to his fellowmen, or to society in general, contrary to the accepted and customary rule of right and duty between man and man."[4] The specific acts that such a concept includes inevitably change over time, as general public acceptance or abhorrence of issues alters; for example, until recent times, a man engaged in homosexual behavior was still considered as engaging in "criminal behavior involving moral turpitude."[5]
The classification of a crime or other conduct as constituting moral turpitude has significance in several areas of law. First, prior conviction of a crime of moral turpitude (or in some jurisdictions, moral turpitude conduct, even without a conviction) is considered to have a bearing on the honesty of a witness and may be used for purposes of witness impeachment.[6] Second, moral turpitude offenses may be grounds to deny or revoke a professional license such as a teaching credential,[7] license to practice law,[8] or other licensed profession. Third, it is of great importance for immigration purposes, as offenses which are defined as involving moral turpitude are considered bars to immigration into the U.S.[9]

[edit]Use in United States immigration law

An arrest that does not lead to a conviction technically causes a person to be inadmissible (under the Visa Waiver Program) to the United States if that arrest was for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude or if they have multiple arrests or convictions where the possible jail time would be greater than five years under U.S.[clarification needed] law. There are Petty Offense exceptions to this rule, even if convicted, although these exceptions do not change the meaning of the question on the Visa Waiver Program and cannot be self-certified. A police caution for cannabis use would also deem a person inadmissible as this would be "a violation related to a controlled substance".[citation needed]
A CIMT (Crime Involving Moral Turpitude) causes the alien to be inadmissible to the United States under section 212(a)(2)(i)(I) on the INA (Immigration Nationality Act). A controlled substance violation causes the alien to be inadmissible to the United States under section 212(a)(2)(i)(II) of the INA. They are two different sections of the law. A controlled substance violation is a CIMT. The immigration administrative proceeding does not use a controlled substance violation as a CIMT. A visa waiver program applicant admissibility is determined at the port of entry and they are subject to section 212(a) and 217 of the INA.[citation needed]

[edit]Visa Waiver Program

The first question on document I-94W for those visiting the U.S. on the Visa Waiver Program asks:
Have you ever been arrested or convicted for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude or a violation related to a controlled substance; or been arrested or convicted for two or more offenses for which the aggregate sentence to confinement was five years or more; or been controlled substance trafficker; or are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immoral activities?
Little guidance is provided to the traveler as to which offenses are included in the definition; however the website of the U.S. embassy in London states that a visa is required for anyone who has ever been arrested or convicted for any offense.[10] This appears to be at variance with the question on form I-94W and information supplied by the US Department of Homeland Security as there are many offenses that are not considered to involve moral turpitude

[edit]U.S. government guidance on determining moral turpitude

A definition of moral turpitude is available for immigration purposes on the United States Department of State website.[11]
For offenses (or arrests on suspicion of such offenses) occurring outside the U.S., the locally defined offense must be considered against the U.S. definitions, and in such cases it is the definition of the offense (as defined in the appropriate country) which is considered for immigration purposes, and not the circumstances of the individual's actual case.[citation needed]

While Paterno did not abuse, he did not report abuse and protected accused who CONTINUED to sexually molest unwilling unconsenting kids!!!
for ex., ... , a man engaged in homosexual behavior was still considered as engaging in "criminal behavior involving moral turpitude."[5]
